    Radiation Oncology

Radiation oncology specialists, medical physicists to plan and perform radiation therapy, dose planners, radiation therapists, and specialized nurses closely collaborate to provide patients with the optimal radiation therapy.

The Radiation Oncology Department is where “radiation therapy” of treating tumors by using radiation is performed, with radiation therapy as one of the three major treatments for tumors along with surgery and chemotherapy. Radiation is light or particles with energy that mainly destroy the nucleic acid (DNA) by delivering energy to the tumor cells in order to kill the cancer cells. Radiation treatment can damage normal tissues along with the cancer cells. However, radiation is focused only on the cancer cells because cutting-edge radiation therapy and equipment that minimize damage to normal surrounding cells are used through delicate and precise radiation treatment by reducing the side effects.

The Radiation Oncology Department at Ajou University Hospital closely collaborates with radiation oncology specialists, medical physicists to plan and perform radiation therapy, dose planners, radiation therapists, and specialized nurses to provide patients with the optimal radiation therapy.
