The Ajou Hearing Center has been established to clarify the fundamental causes of hearing loss, cochlear implant, and dizziness and help patients return to daily life through proper treatment and systematic rehabilitation.

The Ajou Hearing Center is composed of the clinical team and basic team. The basic team investigates hearing loss mechanisms and integrally conducts basic·interventional·clinical research to develop drugs, therapy devices, etc. The center was especially selected as a Research-Centered Hospital by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2013, and numerous domestic and international results are produced through application for various patents.

The clinical team has a systematic organization composed of skilled medical team, coordinators, cochlear implant- specialized nurses, audiologists, speech therapists, vestibular function testers, and cognitive function testers, and surgery-related test reservations and surgery schedules are conducted in a one-stop manner. Conferences are held before and after surgeries or treatments to share the patient’s condition and determine the optimal treatment for the patient.

Following the first cochlear implant in Gyeonggi-do in 2022, the Ajou Hearing Center has performed more than 500 cochlear implants to date. Residual hearing preservation surgery has been performed for the first time in Korea in 2009, wherein approximately 83% of the operated patients could recover their hearing and the success rate of cochlear implants reaches 98%.

The biggest advantage of the Ajou Hearing Center is the thorough rehabilitation management system after cochlear implants. The rehabilitation management system starts regular therapy at least once a week before the patient undergoes surgery, and it is closely and systematically composed for rehabilitation of at least 3 years. If further follow-up management is required, the linked system is also operated for comprehensive management at the private language therapy room linked with the hospital.
