최진혁 교수는 1988년 연세대 의과대학을 졸업하고, 이화여대 의과대학 내과 조교수를 거쳐 현재 아주대 의과대학 종양혈액내과 교수로 재직하고 있다. 전문진료분야는 고형암 특히 폐암, 두경부암, 위암 치료로, 1999년부터 2년 간 세계적인 명성을 떨치고 있는 미국 M.D 앤더슨 암센터에서 연수했다.
최진혁 교수는 왕성한 연구활동으로 유명하다. 1997년 미국 암협회가 발간하며 국제적으로 권위 있는 CANCER지에 ‘위암환자의 혈청에서 상피성장인자 수용체의 검출’ 논문을 발표하여 크게 주목 받았으며, 2002년 대한암학회 로슈종양학술상, 2003년 대한암학회 SK 학술상, 2004년 유럽종양내과학회 우수논문초청상(European Society for Medical Oncology Congress Travel Award), 2008년 한국임상암학회 보령우수연구자상, 2011년 대한암학회 우수연구자상, 2013년 한국임상암학회 보령학술상, 2013년과 2018년 대한 암학회 우수 논문심사자상 등을 수상한 바 있다.
대외적으로는 대한종양내과학회 회장을 지냈으며 대한암학회, 대한두경부종양학회, 대한폐암학회, 미국암연구학회, 미국임상종양학회, 유럽종양내과학회 정회원으로도 활동하고 있다.
