남동호 교수는 1989년 연세대 의과대학을 졸업후 신촌 세브란스병원에서 전공의 과정을 수료하였으며, 연세대 의과대학 내과 강사를 거쳐 현재 아주대 의과대학 알레르기내과 정교수로 봉직하고 있다. 지난 2002년 2월부터 2003년 8월까지 미국 국립보건원(NIH)에 연구원으로 연수한 바 있다.아주대 의과대학 알레르기내과 주임교수 겸 임상과장을 역임했다.
전문진료분야는 기관지천식, 알레르기질환, 자가면역질환으로 「기관지천식 환자에서 자가면역병인 기전에 관한 연구」, 「아토피피부염에서 새로운 면역치료 방법」 등에 대한 연구를 진행하고 있다.
대외적으로 대한 천식 및 알레르기학회 학술지 간행위원, 대한 천식 및 알레르기 학회 산하 난치성 아토피피부염 Work Group 팀장으로 활동하고 있다.
대표적인 연구실적으로는 2002년 세계 최초로 비알레르기성 천식과 연관된 자가면역 표적 항원 단백질을 규명하였으며, 2006년 중증 천식과 연관된 자가면역 표적 항원 단백질을 규명하였고, 2008년 난치성 아토피피부염에 대한 새로운 면역치료법의 임상효과를 보고한 바 있다.
